Her 8th grade girls swim team finished 2nd this year in the zone finals being edged out only slightly by the Johnston Greyhounds. However, Marizza's 7th grade girls and boys teams swept the zone finals bringing home all the hardware with them! Way to go Coach Hargrove we will always remember you. Spencer makes Safety Patrol!

As you can guess Spencer was very excited on his first day as a new "recruit-in-training" He was an alternate last year but did not ever make it to the "big show"! This year however, he was called up to action and on Monday October 13, 2008 he put on the orange harness of safety for the very first time.
He was stationed at "C Post" for his first assignment and after some on the job training he was performing his first active duty as a safety patrol. Unfortunately, his first few attempts required some correction as he positioned himself with his back to the traffic which was quickly corrected and he was able to perform his duty with expert precision! The photo below shows Spencer being shown proper positioning and protocol. He quickly learns the techniques and is serving his class and community providing excellent safety for everyone!

First Tee Summer Sizzle Scramble

Spencer took part in his first golf scramble today and was part of a team in a field of twelve. Although his team did not finish in the top three which received prizes he did have a great time and 5 of the 9 holes played were from his T shots. After the 4 hour marathon scramble was over pizza cold lemonade was served by the parents and First Tee staff. What a great day!

John and I are calling on you for HELP!!! Serious HELP! As many of you know, we are in the process of buying a home and will be closing on March 25th, and we are beyond excited. It’s definitely a huge blessing. In addition to that, we have entered a contest through gallery furniture wherein we created a Gallery Furniture commercial. To win the contest, we have to get people to vote for us. So, no, we’re not emailing to ask for help with moving (aren’t you glad about that?). We simply need you to go to the Gallery Furniture website (I would suggest turning your sound off first) and vote for our commercial entitled Vote 4 Ostrich. This is Melissa’s directorial debut (KIDDING), so don’t laugh too much. The star, John, is hoping to continue his acting career as well.

Seriously though, please vote for us and beyond that, send this email to EVERYONE you know and encourage them to send it on as well. Voting is based on email address, so if you have multiple emails, you can vote multiple times, and EVERY VOTE COUNTS! You have to actually click on the VOTE button and enter your email address. We didn’t learn about this contest till late in the submission timeline, so we’re a little behind the eight ball, but know with everyone’s help, we can come from behind. We are totally excited about this opportunity and thank you for passing this on.

Spencer's Soccer Finale

Today we celebrated the conclusion of Spencer's First soccer season. The team had a great time together at Jax's Grill with a fine dinner and the presentation of trophies. Overall the team record was not so hot, but we were proud none-the-less. Spencer took on this challenge (most of you know he's not athletically inclined) and achieved every goal we set before him. Despite the fact that the team did not win a game all season, Spencer kept his enthusiasm for the game, not just the win.

He excelled as a goalie and loved playing as a forward. We'll add more pics of him in action, but for now, here are two of Spence with his mommy and Daddy JJ.

Spooky Spaghetti and MORE . . .
We had an awesome though action packed weekend. We started out on Friday with soccer practice and Trunk or Treat at the YMCA. Can I just brang for a moment, Spencer is great at soccer, though his team has not won a game this season, he has stuck with it. He played goalie this weekend and did awesome!

Saturday was filled with soccer, shopping, and Spooky Spaghetti. We had an awesome time. All four of us were in costume, Spencer was a Magician, Marizza a Vampire Princess, John, hmmmmm, an Ostrich riding midget, and I was a Witch. It was sooo much fun!

Directly after that, we headed out to Humble for an outstanding party hosted by my good friend Laura Minor and her new husband John. They went all out with catered food, a DJ, and a fantastic haunted house. We had a such a great time. Thanks Laura and John for hosting.

See pics of all of our festive filled weekend.

John Completes The Houston Half!

Today my amazing husband took the next step in his journey to complete his first full marathon. Together we woke at the crack of dawn (actually even before that) to get him to The Houston Half Marathon. This was a training run for John and his running buddies of Houston Fit. The ultimate goal is to FINISH STRONG at the Chevron Houston Marathon in January.

John has been training for about 3 months now and in that process has overcome great hurdles. Anyone who has ever gone down the path of training for something like this can tell you beyond the physical hurdle, the mental one is by far a bigger hurdle to overcome. When John started his training he was basically in the worst shape of his life and of course, the oldest he's ever been! I think he's definitely had his moments when he's wondered, what he was thinking when he set this goal before himself. Today, made the whole journey so far totally worth it. This man, my husband (do I sound like a proud wife?), ran with what looked like such ease a half marathon in just over two hours.

A few months ago he was in the slowest group, the walkers! Gradually he's moved up to be among the fastest in his running group. John is awesome at setting and achieving goals. More often than not, he exceeds them. None of what happened today was of him, it was of Him, our Lord. John has prayed and submitted this goal to Him from the very beginning, recognizing that a goal this lofty could only be achieved with supernatural power. Today, he lifted up the event and his continued health to Christ, and before we separated at the start line, we prayed together.

What an amazing testimony to the power of humility and complete faith John demonstrated today.
Good Job Baby! I love you!!

PS, next time I'll make signs to flash at you during your run!
